All Northern-Meodows ponies are handled daily from birth. Great care is taken to make sure the foals mature knowing kind positive experiences with lots of children handling them and loving them. They are vaccinated, trimmed and wormed regularly and when they turn two we start to introduce them to the saddle and bridle. Once they are comfortable with the tack we move on to exposing them to the pasture without the herd for company and take them for short trail rides on a lead. Formal training begins at three years of age with ground work, jumping, lunging to voice commands and exposure to different environments and people with different levels of riding skills. They will go for trail rides with traffic and to shows with the noise and activity of a horse show. Once the pony has reached an acceptable level of training he will be leased to a show home or my children will continue to ride and enjoy them whilst the pony develops and matures in his education.
I have found that by slowly introducing a pony to everyday situations and spending lots of hours with them that they mature to be very calm, social and interested animals and an asset to any family for the hours they give back.
